Public Engagement Matters

MTC is dedicating significant resources to involving the public in Plan Bay Area, as required under 2008 state legislation (SB 375, Chapter 728). The public outreach and involvement budget in fiscal year 2010-11 for meetings and web-based activities is $325,000. This includes costs associated with public events, workshops and briefings (including assistance from firms with expertise in meeting facilitation, recording and review of public comments), facility rentals, food, language translations (printed and in-person), designing and printing publications, developing web materials (including video), and partnerships with nonprofit foundations (such as Envision Bay Area, lead by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation) and community-based organizations in low-income communities and communities of color. This amount does not include MTC staff time.

MTC's 2010 Public Participation Plan

was adopted by the Commission on December 15, 2010.

This document lays out the steps MTC will take to involve residents in decisions affecting Bay Area transportation and land use policies and investments.
